How to vote NO
The referendum passes or fails on turnout. Here's everything you need to be ready for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Confirm the specifics for your address. The dates below come from the Indiana 2026 election calendar, but always check your own registration, polling place, and local early-voting sites at indianavoters.in.gov and the Hamilton County Election Office.
Step by step
- Check that you're registered. Look yourself up at indianavoters.in.gov. This also shows your polling place and a sample ballot.
- Register or update your address by Monday, October 5, 2026. Indiana's registration deadline is 29 days before Election Day. Register or update online at indianavoters.in.gov.
- Decide how you'll vote: early in person, absentee by mail, or on Election Day (see below).
- Bring a valid photo ID. Indiana requires a government-issued photo ID to vote in person — an Indiana driver's license or state ID, a U.S. passport, or a military ID. See the Indiana photo-ID rules.
- Vote NO on the operating referendum — and encourage neighbors who agree to do the same. Close referendums turn on a handful of votes per precinct.
Your three options
Early in-person voting — Oct 6 to Nov 2, 2026
Early in-person voting runs from Tuesday, October 6 through noon on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Hamilton County Clerk's office and satellite sites. Indiana law also requires in-person voting on the two Saturdays before the election. Confirm current sites and hours with the Hamilton County Election Office.
Absentee by mail — request by Oct 22, 2026
Indiana requires a valid excuse to vote absentee by mail. Your mail-ballot application must be received by Thursday, October 22, 2026, and your completed ballot must reach the county election board by 6:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 3. Apply and return early through indianavoters.in.gov.
Election Day — Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Polls in Indiana are open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local (prevailing) time. Hamilton County uses vote centers, so you may be able to vote at any county location — confirm yours at indianavoters.in.gov.
Find the referendum on your ballot. It appears as a public question, usually near the end of the ballot — don't stop after the candidate races. Read it carefully and vote NO.
