πŸ—“οΈ Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026 β€” Vote NO on the operating referendum
Ask him yourself

Go hear the district's case β€” and bring questions

Superintendent Dr. Dan Hile is holding public meetings and open office hours across Noblesville to present the referendum. They're free, open to all residents, and no RSVP is required. We think you should go.

Yes, we're publishing the other side's schedule. We'd rather you hear the district's case directly from the superintendent than take our word β€” or theirs β€” secondhand. Go, listen, and ask the questions below. If the answers are good, they'll hold up. If they're not, you'll have learned that in person.

Public meetings β€” open to all residents

A presentation on the referendum proposal followed by questions. Open to anyone; no RSVP.

Questions worth asking

These are real questions with real answers β€” not gotchas. Ask them plainly and listen to the response. Every one is grounded in the district's own published material, and each links to our sourcing.

  1. “Your page says the 2027 rate will be 38.5¢, and that you don’t expect to need 57¢ at all. Will you commit in writing to a maximum for each of the other seven years?”

The 38.5¢ commitment is real and specific, and it covers one year out of eight. The rate climbs in the years that follow β€” and the ballot still authorizes 57¢. Background →

  2. “At the full 57¢ rate, the referendum costs about $19 a month on a $350,000 home. Do you dispute that number? If not, why is $1.88 the figure on your website?”

The $1.88 is an eight-year average of the net change, which includes a state tax cut arriving regardless. $19 is the cost of the rate itself. Run the math →

  3. “SEA 1 is already lowering homeowners' school taxes. Isn't this referendum absorbing a tax cut the legislature passed for households?”

The district's own page says taxes will be “lower than they would be otherwise” even with the referendum. That relief exists either way β€” the question is who ends up with it. Background →

  4. “Why ask for the maximum rate and the maximum term, instead of a lower rate voters could revisit sooner?”

A shorter term or smaller increase would let the community re-decide with real numbers instead of projections. Background →

  5. “Where did the last referendum's ~$25 million a year go, and what grew fastest β€” classroom instruction, or administration?”

The referendum-fund reports are public. Ask for the year-over-year breakdown. Background →

  6. “What did the district cut, delay, or find in savings before deciding to ask for a higher rate?”

Every budget request comes with an “or else.” The fair test is what was tried first.

A request. Be civil. Dr. Hile is showing up in coffee shops and library rooms to answer questions in person, which is more than many officials do. Disagreeing with the size and length of this ask doesn't require treating anyone badly β€” and a room full of hostile people is the fastest way to make a reasonable question look unreasonable.

Group and neighborhood meetings

The district is also presenting to specific organizations, HOAs, PTOs, and clubs. These are generally open only to members of that group β€” don't turn up to someone's HOA meeting uninvited. If you belong to one of these, though, the presentation is coming to you.
